Modeling trade off Time-Cost-Quality in an Activity Network using Fuzzy Logic and Genetic Algorithm. Journal title 2013; 24 (3) :361-376

Improving the quality of the projects and decreasing the time and cost of performing them are the major goals in performing process of the projects. Project managers pursue these goals by allocating the resources properly and making the best decisions. Since most of the previous works has been done under unrealistic and certain conditions and there has always been a deficit in project manager’s knowledge, considering the uncertain conditions-which resembles the real world conditions-is one of the most dominant specifications of this study. In this paper a fuzzy mathematical model is suggested for a network of activities in which every activity has different running modes. The model can select the best mode of the activities in a way that the above goals are achieved. So a Non-dominated sorting genetic algorithm II (NSGA-II) was designed to solve the suggested model. Then a case study was carried out in petroleum industry and the performance of the model and suggested algorithm were tested. Also the managerial heed to the experts’ view points are measured using α- cut method, and the results of the validation test shows that when , the answers are close to the project’s contract conditions, but as we get closer to and the uncertainty conditions, the answer of the algorithm shows a worse condition regarding the time, cost and quality conditions. This is because when the project manager pays attention to the experts’ viewpoints, uncertainty conditions and risks-which are threats to the project- the overall conditions of the project deteriorates.
